V. M. Oreshnikov was born on January 7 (20), 1904 in Perm . He studied at the Perm Art College . In 1927 he graduated from Leningrad VKHUTEIN , workshop of K. S. Petrov-Vodkin . In the years 1930-1987 he taught at the I. Repin . Candidate of Art Criticism (1937). Doctor of Art (1948). From 1953 to 1977 he was the Rector of the I. Repin .

Oreshnikov was elected a member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR ( 1954 ). Personal exhibitions of the artist took place in Leningrad (1954, 1974, 1985) and Moscow (1975). In 1989–1992, after the artist’s death, his work was successfully presented at exhibitions and auctions of Russian painting L 'Ecole de Leningrad in France [1] .

V. M. Oreshnikov died on March 15, 1987 . He was buried in St. Petersburg on the Literary gangways .

In St. Petersburg, on the house where Oreshnikov ( Petrovskaya nab ., 4) lived in 1967-1987, a memorial plaque was installed.
