Church of Declan
Declan ( English Declan ) ( V century ) - a saint , hegumen, and Bishop of Ardmore . Memorial Day: July 24 in the Roman Catholic Church , August 6 in the Orthodox churches (July 24, old style ).
Saint Declan was born in the territory of the Dessie tribe in Waterford ( Ireland ) and was considered his patron.
He was an Irish monk who was baptized by Coleman of Dromore and became a disciple.
He probably preached the gospel before the arrival of St. Patrick in those parts. He, perhaps, made two pilgrimages to Rome , and then became the first bishop of Ardmore, which was confirmed by St. Patrick during the synod in Cashel in 448 . There are many miracles of St. Declan, who was highly revered by the Dessi tribe.
