Biography

Kiselevsky's grave at the Eastern cemetery of Minsk.

Kiselevsky was born in Minsk in a working class family. In 1952 he graduated from BSU , worked as a teacher at the school for three years, and then entered the graduate school of the Minsk Pedagogical Institute, and taught there. In 1959, Kiselevsky began working at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR , in 1968 he headed the Laboratory for Spectroscopy of Low-Temperature Plasma, was deputy director ( 1970 - 1978 ), then chief scientific secretary of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, academician-secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, rector of BSU ( 1983 - 1990 ).

Since 1963, Kiselevsky was a member of the CPSU , was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the BSSR , a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. Among his students are 20 candidates and 3 doctors of sciences .

Scientific activity

Kiselevsky's scientific works are devoted to plasma physics , questions of instrument making, including space. He studied processes in gas-discharge radiation sources , proposed a new unipolar source. Under the guidance of M. A. Elyashevich, Kiselevsky studied the spectroscopic characteristics of the plasma shell formed when spacecraft enter the dense layers of the atmosphere . He experimentally investigated the possibility of obtaining stable plasma with its various parameters, created and automated installations for its diagnosis. For work in this direction, he was awarded the State Prize of the BSSR in 1974 .

Kiselevsky’s work on the creation of automated systems for recording and processing spectra at large distances was very famous. These systems were used at the Salyut-4 , Salyut-6 , Salyut-7 and Mir space stations to search for and evaluate the Earth’s natural resources (including agricultural and forest lands, marine productive regions) and research optical properties of the atmosphere. This activity was awarded the USSR State Prize in 1990 .
