Wolf, Conrad

Konrad Wolf ( German Konrad Wolf , Konrad Friedrich Wolf [1] ; October 20, 1925 , Hechingen , Germany - March 7, 1982 , Berlin , Germany ) - German film director , son of the writer Friedrich Wolf , younger brother of the leader Foreign Intelligence Markus Wolf . The representative of the Soviet school of cinema (graduated from VGIK ), however, he worked mainly in the GDR . The most famous of Wolf’s films is “Goya, or the Hard Way of Knowledge” based on the novel of the same name by L. Feuchtwanger with Donatas Banionis in the title role.

Biography

After the Nazis came to power, he emigrated with his parents from Germany and since 1934 he lived in the USSR. He participated in the Second World War as part of the Red Army. He served as a translator in the political department of the 47th Army. Lieutenant . He was awarded the Order of the Red Star and the medal "For Military Merit" [2] . In 1945 (at age 19) he was appointed military commandant of the city of Bernau . The experience of the war years is reflected by the director in the films “ I was nineteen ” and “ Mom, I am alive ”.

In 1949 he entered VGIK (Moscow) at the directing department, course of S. A. Gerasimov .

After graduating from VGIK, he lived and worked in the GDR. President of the Academy of Arts of the GDR (1965-1982). Laureate of the National Prize of the GDR (1959, 1968).
