Nationality is the concept of romantic and Marxist-Leninist aesthetics .
Literature People
The concept of "nationality" ("nationality of literature") appeared in the era of romanticism . A. S. Pushkin defined the nationality of literature as follows:
For some time now it has become customary for us to talk about nationality, to demand nationality, to complain about the lack of nationality in the works of literature, but no one thought to determine what he means by the word nationality ... ”he wrote. - A writer’s nationality is a virtue that can be appreciated by some compatriots - for others it either does not exist, or it may even seem like a vice ... Climate, government, faith give each nation a special physiognomy that is more or less reflected in the mirror of poetry. There is a way of thinking and feeling, there is a darkness of customs, beliefs and habits that belong exclusively to some people.
Folk Art
The nationality of art is one of the basic concepts of Marxist-Leninist aesthetics . It means the reflection by art of life, creativity (as well as, according to some concepts, “fundamental interests”) of the people .
In the concept of Marxism-Leninism, the concept of the people of art is closely connected with the revolutionary struggle in Russia. The Bolsheviks identified nationality with partisanship , arguing that art should reflect the interests of the working people. Lenin in an interview with Klara Zetkin claimed:
“Art belongs to the people. It must have its deepest roots in the very depths of the broad working masses. It must be understood ... by the masses and loved by them. "
