Story
The film tells about Mark Whitacre , Ph.D. from the Ivy League , a rising star in the agro-industrial company Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), who in the early 1990s made a fuss about the company's practice of negotiating product prices [6] [7] .
One night, in early November 1992, this senior ADM officer told the FBI agent Brian Shepard that ADM employees, including Whitaker himself, occasionally meet with competitors to set a contract price for lysine , a food supplement. As the highest-ranking official in US history to become an informant, Whitaker secretly collected hundreds of hours of audio and video for several years to give to the FBI [6] [8] [9] .
He helped gather evidence by discreetly recording the cartel’s activities at business meetings in various places around the world, such as Tokyo , Paris , Mexico City and Hong Kong . Over the entire period of Whitaker’s secret activity, which lasted for almost three years, the FBI received evidence of crimes committed by senior officials who set contractual prices for food additives, which at that time was the most widespread case of price collusion. However, not everything is so simple in the biography of Whitaker himself. The investigation reveals the whole truth [6] [8] [9] .
As the plot develops, it turns out that Mark organized the theft of company funds and used the FBI as a “cover”. The final of the film hints that the pretty bald-headed main character is a millionaire.

Making a movie
In 2002, after completing work on the film “Ocean’s Eleven Friends,” Stephen Soderberg announced his intention to film the book by Kurt Eichenwald in "Informant" . In an interview with Fistshowing, director Steven Soderbergh said that the book was written very “cinematically,” since the author, while maintaining the intrigue, hides from the reader a number of important facts about the protagonist [10] . The script was written by former Burns Times journalist Scott Burns. [7]
