The South Bridge ( Latvian. Dienvidu tilts ) is one of the bridges over the Daugava in Riga .

The construction of the bridge began in 2004 , the completion of the construction of interchanges and access roads to Ziepniekkaln street took place in October 2013, the section to Vienibas Gatve remains unbuilt.
The bridge connects Krasta Street and the Glory Bridge (right bank) with the main street of Jan Cakstes Gatve (left bank).
The bridge is 803 meters long and 34.28 meters wide. Bridge clearance - not less than 8.5 meters. The number of pylons - six, height - 13.33 meters above the road surface.
The report of the State Audit Office on the audit of the construction of the South Bridge for the period from January 2002 to September 2008 indicated that the estimate of the first two (of the three) construction phases, approved by the Riga City Council, increased more than five times during construction - from 108.84 million lat to 570.14 million lat [1] . At the same time, according to a statement at the meeting of the Seimas Commission on Public Expenditures and Audits, made by the Director of the Riga City Council Development Department, Guido Prinzis, the South Bridge is the cheapest of such structures built in Europe in 2003-2009 [2] .

Construction History
On January 29, 2002, the Riga City Council adopted Resolution No. 950 “On the project of the South Bridge over the Daugava”. General designer of the bridge route - SIA “Tiltprojekts”, Latvia . The full complex of works on the design of the main structures of the bridge and the technology of its construction was performed by CJSC “Institute Giprostroymost - St. Petersburg” [3] .
Construction began in November 2004 . Products for the construction of the bridge were supplied by the Voronezhstalmost enterprise [4] .
On November 17, 2008 , on the eve of Latvia ’s Independence Day, the first construction phase, the bridge over the Daugava , was solemnly opened. The bridge has three lanes for the movement of vehicles in each direction. There is also a pedestrian area and cycling path .
The second stage of the ball bridge was completed by 2010 and included the reconstruction of the railway overpass of Slava Street (from the bridge over the Daugava River) and the construction of a three-tier overpass on the site of the rotation circle (roundabout) of Glory. The interchange connects Slava, Lubanas (in the direction of Plavnieki ), Piedrujas, Krustpils and Darzciema, as well as the entrances from Rencenu and Lubanas streets in the direction of the railroad to the Moscow suburb .
On October 29, 2013, the third phase of the bridge was commissioned, from Bauskas Street to Ziepniekkaln Street. The queue contains 10 engineering structures, including a pedestrian tunnel, two rotation circles, an overpass and a bridge. [five]
