Darius is a series of horizontal scrolling shooter video games developed by Taito . The first game in the series, Darius , was released in 1986 as an arcade slot machine . Subsequently, it was ported to some game consoles and home computers , and also received a number of sequels for slot machines and home systems.

Characteristic differences from other games of the genre are the ability to choose different levels during the passage of the game (a similar opportunity was subsequently present in the Star Fox game), as well as the appearance of bosses resembling fish or crustaceans. The first two games of the series for slot machines used three screens to display the game situation in the form of a very wide image.

Darius Plus / Super Darius
An extended version of the original Darius for the SuperGrafx game console. The game uses original music from the arcade version and includes several new bosses. Super Darius was developed by NEC Avenue for the PC Engine CD and is the first game in the series to have different bosses in each level.
Darius Alpha
Version of Darius Plus , released in 1990. The game consists of boss fights and is one of the rarest games for the PC Engine - only 800 copies have been released [1] .
Sagaia (Game Boy)
Port of the original Darius for Game Boy , released in 1991. Has several new bosses and is the only game in the series in which there is no opportunity to choose the level in the process of passing the game.
Sagaia (Sega Genesis)
Port of the original Darius II for Sega Genesis . Has one new boss. The rest of the set of levels and bosses corresponds to the original version of the game.
Darius Twin
The first game in the series for the Super NES game console, released in 1991. It features a modified weapons system and the presence of only one final level.
Darius Force / Super Nova
The second game in the series for SNES, released in 1993. In the USA it was released under the name Super Nova . The player can choose one of three spaceships that have different capabilities. The game has three different final levels - two of the arcade versions and one new.
Super Darius II
Darius II port for PC Engine CD , developed by NEC Avenue. A relatively rare game that has several new bosses and an arrangement of original music in the style of hard rock .
Darius R
A game for Game Boy Advance developed by PCCW and released in 2001. It is a simplified version of Darius Plus with fewer levels and bosses.
