Creativity
- Orozco's creative practice includes sculpture, photography, painting and video , explores philosophical issues. Using objects and situations from a modern urban environment, Orozco makes visible the poetry of random connections and paradoxes .
- The works of Gabriel Orozco are filled with lyricism and humor : Citroen cut in length into three parts, and then connected without the middle part - The DS ; a ping pong table converted for four players and with a small pond in the middle ( Ping Pond Table , 1998); Cannon with a pendulum , 1996; a piano with two keyboards (Mother, 1998); toilet paper rolls hanging from a ceiling fan ( Toilet Ventilator , 1997-2001), an elevator outside its shaft located in the room ( Elevator , 1994); a clay ball , which the artist rolled through the whole city, collecting garbage and prints ( Yielding Stone , 1992); the trail that the dog’s tail left in the sand ( Dog Circle , 1995); yellow Schwalbe motorcycles, one at a time and in groups (Until You Find Another Schwalbe Motorcycle, 1995); watermelons with empty cat food cans ( Cats and Watermelons , 1992); ice cream cone on a bush (Ice Cream House, 1995); foggy breath marks on a polished surface (Breath on Piano, 1993).
- The style of the sculptures and photographs of Orozco is predominantly minimalistic and anti-monumental . His sculptural works are often ephemeral, such as Sand on Table - a table on the beach with a pyramid of sand. A photograph of this work gives the constructed situation a longer life. This work contributes to the awareness of the fragility and temporality of our achievements and resources, using an ordinary poetic way.
- His interest in structure and geometry is evident in works such as The Atomists. Recently, in painting, Orozco has been exploring the phenomenon of structures in which the circle symbol acts as a link between geometry and organics, and the alternation of color is based on the principles of the movement of a chess game.
- Gabriel Orozco participated in a large number of group exhibitions, including such as Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, USA (1999), the 11th Document in Kassel, Germany (2002) and the 50th and 51st Venice Biennale (2003 and 2005).
