Early Years and Education
She was born on May 12, 1968 in the Bloomsbury area , known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, in central London and spent all her childhood in the Brunswick Center residential complex.
Her mother, Josephine Ford, was a florist , and was sure that little Catherine would continue her family business when she grew up. Katherine's father left the family when she was only six months old, and therefore only her grandmother and godmothers helped raise her future actress.
As a child, she suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder , characterized by verbal associations. For example, she would never have left her sweater on the floor, as she was sure that this would definitely bring misfortune to her mother, whose name also begins with the letter combination “j”. Moreover, she was terribly shy [5] .
She studied at first at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Elementary School in Holborn , and then at Notre Dame Secondary Catholic School for Girls in Southwark . Already a teenager, she dreamed of a professional acting career, so Catherine spent her last years of studies at the Catholic School for Boys “ Salesian College ” in Battersea , where she had the opportunity to study acting.
She received her acting education at the Central School of Stage Speech and Dramatic Art . She couldn’t get there right away, but she didn’t give up, and in the end she managed to do it only the fourth time [6] .
