Story
The player controls a young witch named Cotton, flying on a broomstick and fighting various enemies. Most of the games in the series are a horizontal version of a scroll shooter; later games are rear-view rail shooters. Cotton always has a childish appearance and behavior shown in splash screens between levels.
Each game in the series has its own plot, freely associated with the rest of the games in the series. All the plots evolve around Cotton's addiction to a magical sweet called “willow”. Usually the plot is to travel Cotton to different places and complete different missions in the hope that she will receive a willow as a reward. Almost all the games in the series end up with the fact that Cotton never receives a reward.
