Columbus Circle

Columbus Circle ( Columbus Circle ) is one of Manhattan 's most famous squares, emerging from the southwest corner of Central Park , at the intersection of Broadway and Eighth Avenue , at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The neighborhoods adjacent to the square are also called.

In the center of the square stands a marble monument to Columbus on a 21-meter rostral column with images of the ships of the great navigator. This monument, designed by Italian Gaetano Russo, was erected in 1892 as part of the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. The area serves as a zero kilometer for New York.

Around the monument are buildings of different eras, mostly modern ones, including the 229-meter skyscraper of the Time Warner Center , which houses the headquarters of the Time Warner media conglomerate.
