2009 World Ice Hockey Championship Second Division

The 2009 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is an IIHF- sponsored ice hockey competition held from April 6 to 13, 2009 in Novi Sad ( Serbia ) and Sofia ( Bulgaria ). The winners of the groups received the right to play in the first division of the 2010 World Cup . The teams that took the last places in the groups moved to the third division of the 2010 World Cup .

Participating teams

The championship was attended by 12 national teams - six from Europe , four from Asia , one from North America and Africa . The DPRK and South African national teams came from the third division , the national teams of Estonia and the Republic of Korea came from the first division , the rest from the last tournament of the second division .
