Dumaguete is a city in the Philippines in the province of East Negros on the island of Negros , the largest city , the main port and capital of the province. The population is 102,265 inhabitants (2000). Residents of the city are called dumagetenos . The city itself received the epithet "City of good people." Status of the city (City) since June 15, 1948.

Dumaguete is a student city, a university center. Young people come here to study not only from the island of Negros, but also from neighboring provinces that are part of the regions of Visaya and Mindanao . There are seven universities in the city. The most famous of them is Siliman University. The student population in the city is 30,000.
The city also attracts many foreign tourists, especially from Europe. It is easily accessible from Cebu Island. Bays Bay has conveniently located beaches where you can watch whales and dolphins .
