Skull - a type of helmet close to a helmet .
It was a hemispherical tulle, tight-fitting head, with small cutouts for the ears. These helmets were worn under hats or berets . From above, they were often equipped with five to seven high spikes, and sometimes supplemented with headphones .
Appeared in Italy in the XVI century under the name Ital. cervelliera and ital. segretta in testa , where they entered the tradition of being worn under caps. By 1640, it spread throughout Western Europe and was used by cavalry .
