Sagarda, Nikolai Ivanovich

Born in the family of a priest in the village of Krasionovka, Zolotonoshsky district, Poltava province. Brother - Alexander Ivanovich Sagarda , professor of theology.

He graduated from the Pereyaslavl Theological College, the Poltava Theological Seminary (1892), the St. Petersburg Theological Academy in 1896 with a candidate of theology degree. In 1896 - 1897 he was a professor at the Academy in the Department of Holy Scripture of the New Testament. Master of Theology ( 1904 , dissertation topic: "The First Cathedral Message of St. Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian"). Doctor of Church History ( 1917 , thesis: "St. Gregory the Miracle Worker, Bishop of Neocasaria. His life, creations and theology", this work was awarded the Makaryev Prize).

• Since 1897 - a Latin teacher at the Poltava Theological College.
• Since 1899 - a teacher of biblical and church history at the Poltava Theological Seminary.
• Since 1905, he was an assistant professor, then a supernumerary extraordinary professor at the Department of Patristics at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy.
• Since 1909 - a full-time extraordinary professor of the Academy in the Department of Patristics.
• In 1917 he was elected full-time ordinary professor of the academy, but by decree of the combined presence of the Holy Synod and the Supreme Church Council was not approved in this rank due to the lack of funds in the general church treasury.

From December 1911 to January 1, 1915 - editor of the Christian Reading magazine. The author of the translation of the works of St. Gregory of Neocaesarea (published in Petrograd in 1916).

In 1918 he left for Poltava , then moved to Kiev . Since 1919 - privat-docent of Kiev University, gave lectures on the history of ancient Christian literature. In 1920, he was briefly a professor at the Higher Institute of Public Education in Kiev. Since the end of 1920 - head and chief librarian of the Poltava Central Scientific Library, he lectured on the history of Christianity at the Poltava Ukrainian Institute of Social Sciences (since 1921 - Institute of Public Education).

Then he returned to Kiev, headed the department at the National Library of Ukraine, was deputy chairman of the Byzantological Commission of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences . He has published over 30 bibliographic works in academic journals.
