Group History
The Mixtures was formed in 1965 when a native of Melbourne, Terry Dean, relaxing on the island of Tasmania , met with local musician Rod De Clerk. Both met with guitarist Laurie Arthur, a member of The Strangers, played jam, found similar tastes and decided to combine creative efforts. [2] In the same year, the group received a contract with EMI and released their debut single, Coco Joe, followed by two more releases.
In 1969, The Mixtures switched to CBS . A year later, when many Australian radio stations boycotted Australian records released by British major labels, the group switched to Fable Records and released In the Summertime, a cover of the hit Mungo Jerry , which topped the Australian charts and lasted six weeks at the top. The next single, “The Pushbike Song,” became a worldwide hit (# 1 Aus, # 2 UK, # 44 US - here it was released by Sire Records ). The singles “Henry Ford” (# 43, Aus) and “Captain Zero” (# 5, 1971) were also successful, but only local. The group continued to perform and record; she broke up in 1976 . [2]
Mick Flynn joined The Springfields, then became a member of The New Seekers . [3]
