In the early 1970s, he started in the Formula-Atlantic on a March car, and then on the chassis of his own design, Linkar-Nicholson, where he twice became the champion of the Formula-Atlantic in 1973-1974. In 1973, he founded his own company, engaged in the preparation of engines " Cosworth " for teams "Formula 1" and built his own chassis "Formula 1" "Lincar", which twice participated in the British Grand Prix of the world championship "Formula 1", and also started on it in various extra-race, the best result in which was the sixth place in the Race of champions in 1974. He also participated in the 1974 Le Mans 24 Hours race . In 1975, he planned to buy Maclaren M23 for performances in Formula 1, but due to financial difficulties he started only in Formula 5000 and the European Formula 2 championship, where he did not qualify in most races.
