History
Ground
The Need to Open a College in West Texas appeared shortly after the settlers arrived here in the 1880s [7] [8] .
On February 10, 1923, Pat Morris Neff signed into law on the establishment of the Texas College of Technology , and in July of that year, the committee began looking for a place to host it. [9] When committee members visited Lubbock, they were amazed that local people gathered in the streets to express their support for the idea of founding an educational institution here [10] [11] . In August of the same year, Lubbock was selected in the first ballot, bypassing cities such as Floydide , Plainview and Sweetwater [10] .
Campus construction began on November 1, 1924 [8] . Ten days later, a corner stone of an office building was laid in front of a crowd of 20,000 people. At this event, Governor Neff delivered a speech, Amon J. Carter, in , Reverend Robinson, Colonel Ernest O. Thompson and House of Representatives R. M. Chitwood [12] .
