Life and work

Born in the family of the artist. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lille.
Erben's artworks show numerous shifts in various painting styles. His first paintings in the style of Van Gogh's works are followed by canvases written under the explicit Fauvist and cubic- figurative influence.
Since 1913, Auguste Erben has been creating colorful, juicy figurative paintings; then, in 1917 - 1921 he switched to abstract geometric painting, sculpture and frescoes. After the next figurative period of creativity, the artist chooses a completely abstract painting. The work of Auguste Erben had a significant impact on the work of Victor Vasarely and Op Art in general. Erben is also considered one of the co-founders of “Creative Abstractionism” ( Abstraction-Creation ).
