The Institute is a non-profit organization whose activities are completely carried out by volunteers . Most of the work at ASRI is done jointly with Australian universities such as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology , Queensland University of Technology and Sydney University of Technology . For 2006, ASRI is developing a concept for the future of Australian space society, including industry.
Unlike space agencies in more industrialized countries, ASRI does not directly receive any government funding, as the Australian government considered that there are no strategic, economic or social reasons for gaining independence in space, and its official space policy is both customer and consumer. rather than developing (or promoting technology), the goal is to gain safe and cost-effective access by Australian users to space products and services global marketable.
ASRI is designed to provide space-oriented industrial and technological capabilities for the Australian technical community.
