In 1766 he published a collection of poems Quarts d'heure d'un joyeux solitaire, from which he subsequently disowned. Adding to the enemies of the encyclopedists, he printed the pamphlet Le Tableau philosophique de l'esprit de M. de Voltaire. Attached at the Court of Versailles, Sabatier defended religion and at the same time translated, under the pseudonym , Boccaccio . He emigrated after the capture of the Bastille and wrote the pamphlet Tocsin des politiques ( 1791 ).

His main works are: Les trois siècles de la littérature française ou Tableau de l'esprit do nos écrivains depuis François 1 - er jusqu'en 1772 (Paris, 1772), Dictionnaire de littérature ( 1777 ), Les Siècles païens "( 1784 )," Le véritable esprit de JJ Rousseau "( 1804 ).
