Julius Bissier ( him. Julius Bissier ; December 3, 1893 , Freiburg - June 18, 1965 , Ascona ) - German abstract painter, close to the direction inforformel ( fr. Art informel ), started as an artist of the New Materiality ( him. Neue Sachlichkeit ).

Biography
Born into a poor family. His father died in 1907, when the boy was 13 years old.
- 1913 - some time studying the history of art at the University of Freiburg .
- 1914 - continues his studies at the Karlsruhe Art Academy.
- 1914-1918 - drafted into the army.
- 1918 - continued education at the artist in Munich .
Bissier was greatly influenced by his acquaintance with the sinologist Ernst Grosse (1862–1927) (German), which took place in 1919. Grosse introduced the young artist with the art and spiritual practices of Asia. Bissier studies the techniques of ink painting (the artist creates his first ink works in 1926).
- 1928 - receives the Gold Medal in the field of painting the city of Düsseldorf .
In 1930, Bissier met in Paris with the sculptor Constantin Brancusi . This meeting (like its predecessor, painter Willie Baumeister ) was the impetus for Bissier experiments in the field of non-objectiveness .
- 1929-1933 - teaches at the University of Freiburg .
- 1934 - in a fire at the university, a huge number of works of the artist perish.
- 1935-1938 - repeatedly visits Italy .
- 1939 - moves to Hagnau on Lake Constance .
- 1955-1956 - begins his series of works "Miniatures".
- 1958 - Retrospective of the works of J. Bissier in the “Koestner Society”, Hannover .
- 1959 - takes part in the exhibition of contemporary art document II, Kassel ; the artist is awarded the Cornelius Prize of the city of Düsseldorf.
- 1959-1960 - J. Bissier creates wall panels for the University of Freiburg; retrospectives of his work in the Public Museum ( Gemeente-Museum ), The Hague and the Palace of Fine Arts, Brussels .
- 1964 - the artist wins the Grand Prize in the field of art of the German state of North Rhine - Westphalia .
- 1965 - exhibition of the artist's works in Edinburgh (posthumously).
- From 1961 until his death, J. Bissier lives in Ascona , Ticino Canton, Switzerland . In the same city there is also an extensive archive of the artist.
