When a militia gathered in Vologda to liberate the voivode Mikhail Skopin-Shuisky captured by the Poles and their allies , he ordered Vysheslavtsev to head it. The militia left Vologda in February 1609 and headed south. March 3, it freed the city of Romanov , March 16, moved to Yaroslavl . By this time in his ranks were up to 40 thousand soldiers. On April 7, 1609, Nikita Vysheslavtsev became near the city, near the village of Grigoryevskoye . Pan Tyszkiewicz, the head of the Polish garrison, came out to meet him with his detachment. Vysheslavtsev divided the army: in the depths of the road were set up, behind which part of the troops were located, skiers took refuge in the forest near the road, and the forward regiment openly went forward. When he came across a horse detachment of Tyszkiewicz, he turned back at the command. The Poles began the persecution and were ambushed, their situation was aggravated by the fact that the horses got stuck in deep and damp snow, and the Yaroslavl forces, who were forcefully mobilized into the detachment, joined the militia. As a result of the battle, the Poles and their allies began to retreat and were completely killed, and Tyszkiewicz himself fled. The remaining Polish troops left Yaroslavl. The next day, a militia entered it, which was solemnly met in the city. [1] [2]
