Idea
The idea of writing the novel Vikas Swarup picked up, reading an article in a newspaper about children from Indian slums, who actively use mobile communications and the Internet and thereby destroy class barriers. At the same time, he learned about the scandalous participation of a major in the British army, Charles Ingram , who tricked him to win £ 1 million in the game "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Swarup concluded that if a British major was accused of collusion, similar charges could be brought against anyone who participated in the game, even if he was the most slum-domineering Indian.
Short description of the plot
The police interrogate a guy named Rama Mohammed Thomas ( born Ram Mohammad Thomas ), who believes in fate. He is an orphan, and since it is not known what religion his parents followed, his name corresponds to three religions - Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. Ram is accused of having participated in the TV game "Who Will Take a Billion?" any accomplice who could help Rama. The only person who is ready to listen to the story is the lawyer Smith Shah, who is committed to defending his client at any cost. The plot is intertwined with flashbacks in which Rama answered the questions of the TV game - it was Rama's story that can help explain how he knew the answers to the questions asked to him at the game.
