Biography
Born in the family of a Tallinn cab driver.
During the Livonian War, Russov began compiling his Chronicle of the Province of Livonia ( Rostock , 1578). In 1584, its second edition was published in Bart, with a continuation brought to 1583. For the ancient history of Livonia, the Russov’s chronicle does not matter, but he set out the Livonian War with great detail, as an eyewitness and contemporary. He had the opportunity to use many official sources. The trend of labor is purely theological; all the misfortunes of war are a punishment to the Livonians for forgetting God. A supporter of Sweden , Russov, as a burgher , is hostile to the Livonian nobility. Already contemporaries considered it necessary to make amendments and objections to Russov ( Taube , Tiefengauzen ). Critics also note the artistic merit of The Chronicles.
