Taichung ( Chinese trade. 臺中 , exercise 台中 , pinyin : Táizhōng ) is a city in the center of western Taiwan , the third most populated city on the island after Taipei and Kaohsiung , one of the five regional cities in Taiwan. The name of the city means "Central Taiwan." In 2010, the city was merged with Taichung County [3] .

Transport
Rail Transport
A railway line connecting Taiwan’s north and south runs through Taichung. In Taichung County, there is a high-speed railway station , from which you can get to the city by bus.
Bus
The bus is the most popular form of public transport in Taichung. There are 15 intra-city routes connecting different parts of the city. There are also suburban and intercity routes.
Metro
The Taichung administration plans to build a subway in the city. The plan includes the construction of three lines connecting the city center with the outskirts, satellite cities and the high-speed railway station. The first section with a length of 16.7 kilometers will be flyover and ground. There will be 14 trestle and 2 ground stations on this site. The opening of the line is expected in October 2016 [6] .
Taichung International Airport
Taichung International Airport was opened in 2004 . This is the third largest airport in Taiwan. The airport serves domestic and international flights, including to China .
Culture
Museums
There are two major state museums in Taichung: the Taiwan State Museum of Fine Arts and the State Museum of Natural Sciences.
- Taiwan State Museum of Fine Arts was opened in 1988. His collection has more than 10 thousand exhibits. The collection includes works from different eras, such as the rule of the Ming and Qing dynasties , the period of Japanese rule and the post-war period.
- The State Museum of Natural Sciences is one of the most visited museums in Taiwan. Each year, it receives more than three million visitors, second only to the Taipei Zoo and the Museum of the Imperial Palace in Taipei. The main exhibition of the museum is dedicated to zoology, botany, geology and anthropology.
Temples
Taichung has hundreds of Buddhist and Taoist temples and shrines, as well as temples dedicated to local deities.
The most famous temple in Taichung is Confucius Temple. In it you can see traditional clothes, dishes and musical instruments that are used to celebrate the festival in honor of the birthday of the Great Teacher.
Not far from the temple of Confucius is a Buddhist temple Baojue. Inside the temple is a Buddha statue with a height of 31 meters - the largest in Taiwan.
Stadiums
There are two stadiums in Taichung: Taichung stadium and Taichung baseball stadium.
Attractions
Lin Family Sanctuary
The sanctuary is intended for the veneration of ancestors . It was built of wood in the first quarter of the nineteenth century and was moved several times to another place. At its present site, the sanctuary has been located since 1930 . The sanctuary is decorated with carvings , calligraphy , clay statues and bas-reliefs .
Lake Pavilion
The pavilion is located in the center of Ziyue Lake in Taichung Park . It was built in 1908 in honor of the completion of the construction of a railway from north to south of Taiwan. Today this pavilion is considered one of the most recognizable architectural symbols of Taichung.
