Photograph of the Moon by Lewis Rutherford in 1865
He owns one of the first photographs of the moon ( 1859 ). Pictures of the Pleiades , obtained by him using a 11¼- inch lens specially sanded for ultraviolet rays, for the first time ( 1865 ) made it possible to attach a photograph to the tasks of measuring astronomy. The known Rutherford machine for cutting diffraction grids.
Memory
In 1935, the International Astronomical Union named Rutherford the crater on the visible side of the moon .
