Reichseisenbahnamt ( REA , Russian imperial department of railways ) - the central administration of the German Empire subordinate to the Reich Chancellor , which exercised control over all imperial, state and private railways . [1] Acted in accordance with imperial law of July 27, 1873 . The REA residence was in Berlin . The President of REA was formally appointed by the Kaiser . The Presidents of REA were:
- 1873-1874 - Friedrich-Wilhelm Schele
- 1874-1877 - Albert Maybach
- 1891-1902 - Carl von Thielen
- 1902-1906 - Hermann von Buddha
- 1906-1918 - Paul von Breitenbach
(REA president was not appointed from 1877 to 1891)
The REA functions included: [2]
- control over the railways;
- concern for the implementation of the norms laid down in the Imperial Constitution and other laws relating to railway transport;
- elimination of shortcomings in the work of railways.
