Biography
One of the first European DJs to create mixes for publishing and broadcasting, Ben Librand is rightfully considered one of the founders of studio DJing in Europe. Widespread fame in Europe comes to Ben after the broadcast of the Grandmix series of mixes on the popular European radio "538" Veronica. Each issue was broadcast as summing up the year and had a sounding time of 50-60 minutes. Ben also made a lot of small Minimix mixes for Veronica Radio, which participated in the European charts.
Ben began work on compiling disco software in 1975 in his little studio The Liebrand Audio Studio. 1978-1979 Ben launched (but did not mix) his compilation Juicy Lucy. 1979–1980 Ben studies the art of mixing from Huib Luiten in the studio “Kwien”, 1980–1988 he works in the studio Keizer Karel. Since 1982, Librand begins to earn, make mixes for business. From 1983 to 1993, Ben made mixes for Veronica In The Mix, Minimix and Grandmix radio programs. In 1991, Ben begins to use a different sound processing technique, and also works with video editing, 3D animation. Since then, he has done a lot of work for different record companies from the Netherlands, England, Germany, Spain and France. In 1995, Ben worked with his sister at the Hippodrome studio in Hennef, Germany. In 1999, Ben changed a little and re-issued all the old Grandmix releases from magnetic tapes, with a better sound, but annual releases are not released on CD.
An interesting fact is that Ben Librand was the idol of such a famous DJ like Armin van Buren . Armin sent Ben one of his first records, which he really liked. Librand also talked a lot to Armin about the producer and DJ craft.
