History
Radio Committee of the Armenian SSR and Radio Control of the Armenian SSR (until 1957)
On September 1, 1926, the People’s Commissariat for Posts and Telegraphs launched the radio station Radio Armenia , in 1933 it was transferred to the Committee for Radio and Radio Broadcasting of the SNK of the Armenian SSR, reorganized in 1953 as the Main Directorate of Radio Information of the Ministry of Culture of the Armenian SSR (Radio Directorate of the Armenian SSR). On September 5, 1955, the Council of Ministers of the USSR decided to create 27 channels in the republics of the Soviet Union. The first broadcast from Yerevan television was on November 29, 1956. On February 9, 1957, the Radio Department of the Armenian SSR began relaying the first program and launched its own Armenian TV channel. The first news program was broadcast on August 6, 1957 and was called "Weekly News." She came out once a week, but by February 1958 she had become periodic and uninterrupted.
State Radio and Television of the Armenian SSR (1957 - 1991)
On October 13, 1957, the Radio Department of the Armenian SSR was reorganized into the State Committee on Radio and Television under the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR (State Radio and Television of the Armenian SSR). In March 1973, preparations began to modernize television from black and white to color. On May 1, 1973, Armenian television conducted its first color broadcast from Red Square, on the occasion of the May 1 Parade. Initially, not all programs were in color. Basically, these were concerts, parades, sporting events, etc. But since 1978, already 50% of Armenian television has been “in color”. And from 1973 to 1978, the percentage of color programs reached 70% of color to 30% of black and white. In November 1977, a new television tower of 311.7 meters began broadcasting thanks to the Orbita-2 space station. Now residents of the Armenian and other Soviet Socialist Republics could watch more channels.
State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Armenia (1990s)
In the early 1990s, the State Radio and Television of Armenia was reorganized into the State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Armenia. Since 1996, the channel began satellite broadcasting in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa from the Hot Bird satellite; since 2000, the broadcasting range has reached the Far East, Australia, the USA and Canada. Now the international version of “Armenia1” channel broadcasts around the world. In the same 1996, the State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Armenia launched the “Second Channel of the Armenian Television” and, approximately the same period, the Second and Third Programs of Radio Armenia. The frequencies of the 1st All-Union Radio passed the 1st Radio of Armenia, the frequencies of the Lighthouse - 2nd Radio Armenia, the frequencies of the 3rd program of the All-Union Radio - 3rd Radio of Armenia, the old frequency of Radio Armenia - Nostalgie. In 1999, the “Second Channel of the Armenian Television” was closed, and its frequency was transmitted to the private television company Armenia 2 .
Public Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Armenia (since 2000)
In 2000, the State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Armenia was transformed into the Public Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Armenia [2] [3] . The television company was admitted to the European Broadcasting Union in 2004, and already in 2006, Armenia began to take part in Eurovision . In 2007, the second channel of the Ararat Public Television was created with broadcasts on culture and art.
On September 12, 2016, the Public Television Channel of Armenia, announcing a new 60th anniversary season, switched to high definition broadcasting ( HDTV ) [4]
