Yuriy Konstantinovich Shcheglov ( 1937 - 2009 ) is a Russian literary scholar and linguist , creator (together with Alexander Zholkovsky ) of “ generative poetics ” and “ expressive poetics ”.

Biography
He graduated from the Romano-Germanic Department of the Philological Faculty of Moscow State University ( 1959 ). His fellow students were Marietta Chudakov , Alexander Chudakov , Alexander Zholkovsky , Tatiana Tsivyan . In the 1960s, he studied at the graduate school of the Institute of Oriental Languages at Moscow State University (he studied Hausa and Swahili ), and then worked there. In the 1970s, he simultaneously worked at IMLI . Participant of the so-called "seminar Zholkovsky- Meletinsky ."
In October 1979 he emigrated, in the 1980s he lived in Canada, then in the USA. He taught at the Slavic Studies Department of the University of Wisconsin . In December 2007, he moved away from active teaching. He died of cancer in the city of Madison .
