Saltstraumen

Saltstraumen ( Norwegian. Saltstraumen ) is a tidal current in Northern Norway .

Occurs in a strait of 3 km long and 150 m wide, connecting the Salten Fjord and Sherstad Fjord with the sea . It is considered one of the strongest tidal currents in the world. About 400 million cubic meters of water flow in one cycle at a speed reaching 37 km / h. Water forms whirlpools with a diameter of up to 12 meters and 4-5 meters in depth from the surface. This phenomenon occurs four times a day.
