Biography

The son of a pharmacist. In 1914 he entered the 48th Infantry Regiment. Member of the First World War , Lieutenant . In August 1916 he was transferred to aviation; pilot observer. He served in the 249th squadron, commanded by the future field marshal Hugo Sperle . In 1918 he served at the headquarters of the German military administration in Riga. For military distinctions, he was awarded the Iron Cross of the 1st and 2nd class. In 1919 he was a member of the Volunteer Corps , participated in battles with the Bolsheviks in the Baltic.

After being demobilized from the army, he was left in the Reichswehr, but then retired and began to do business. During the World Economic Crisis in 1932, his company went bankrupt. April 1, 1933 joined the NSDAP (ticket number 1 667 407). After he joined the SS on July 6, 1933 (ticket number 72 909), [1] [2] all his further activities until the very end of the war were connected with this organization. Greifelt began his service in the SS with the rank of Untersturmfuhrer. On May 1, 1934, he was appointed chief of staff of the SS “Elba” SS Security Council, and on June 15, 1934, the SS “Rain” SS Chief of Staff. May 25, 1935 was appointed head of the Central Chancellery of the Main Directorate of the SS, and on February 24, 1937 he was transferred to the Personal Headquarters of the SS Reichsführer ( German: SS Reichsführerpersonalstab; Personliches Stab des SS Reichsführer ).

On October 7, 1939, Hitler appointed Heinrich Himmler the imperial commissioner for the consolidation of the German people ( German: Reichskommissar für die Festigung Deutschen Volkstums ; RKFDV ). In mid-October 1939, the "Service of the Imperial Commissioner for the Consolidation of the German People" ( "Dienststelle des Reichskommissars für die Festigung deutschen Volkstums" ) and the Headquarters of the Imperial Commissioner for the Consolidation of the German People ( "Führungsstab des RKFDV" consisting of 6 divisions) led by Greifelt. The functional task of this department was to coordinate all the activities of the SS Main Directorate for Race and Settlement ( SS-Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt , RuSHA ), the SS Main Directorate for the Repatriation of Ethnic Germans Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle ( Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle ; VoMi ) and Reich security Main office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt; RSHA) to attract ethnic Germans outside the Reich ( «Volksdeutsche» ) to the service of Nazi Germany, as well as for the resettlement activities of imperial Germans ( «Reichsdeutsche») and ethnic Germans, expropriation Property Nost non-Germans for their needs in the occupied territories and its distribution among German colonizers. In mid-July 1941, the Headquarters of the Imperial Commissar was established on the basis of the office headed by Greifelt, and received the status of the Main Directorate in the SS system ( StHA / RKF ), and Greifelt remained its chief. After the war, it became known that it was Greifelt’s office, along with the Main Imperial Security Directorate, that was the main developer of the Ost Master Plan , a plan for colonizing the occupied territories of the USSR after the defeat of the Soviet Union by Germany . Work on this plan on behalf of Hitler began in April 1940 and continued until 1944. [4] At the end of the war, arrested by the Allies. At the trial of the American Military Tribunal in Nuremberg from October 20, 1947 to March 10, 1948 in the case of senior officers of the SS Main Directorate for Race and Settlements, the SS Main Headquarters of the Imperial Commissar for the Consolidation of the Germanic People, Volkswagen Mittelshtell, and also the organization Lebensborn Greifelt was one of the main defendants. [5] [6] He was recognized as the main person responsible for the expulsion of people from Slovenia , Alsace , Lorraine and Luxembourg during the war and was sentenced on March 10, 1948 to life imprisonment. Died in a Landsberg prison from a heart attack. [7]
