Buck started skating at the age of five. As a child, she wanted to become a ballerina , but her father did not approve of such a career choice, saying that he did not want to see his daughter “moving in pigeon steps.” [2] He suggested doing figure skating. At first, Buck competed as a loner , considering ice dancing a boring sport. [2] Buck began performing in ice dancing only when she paired up with the more experienced Nelson-Bond.
