Disney Studios, being the copyright holder, had plans to create a sequel to Monster Corporation since 2005. Following a disagreement with Pixar, Disney commissioned Circle 7 Animation to work on the painting. [2] An initial script was written; however, the purchase of Disney Pixar in early 2006 led to the cancellation of the Circle 7 version of the film [3] . The sequel from Pixar received confirmation in 2010 [4] , and in 2011 it became known that the film would instead become a prequel called “Monster University” [5] .
The premiere took place on June 5, 2013 at the BFI Southbank Cinema located in London. The picture was released on June 20, 2013 in the CIS [6] , in the USA on June 21. The Monsters University screening was preceded by the short film Blue Umbrella , directed by Sashka Unzelda. The tape raised $ 744 million with a budget of $ 200 million [1] . An animated short called "Party Center", the plot that unfolds immediately after the events of "Monster University", was released in the fall of 2013 [7] [8] .

Story
The cartoon tells of events that happened long before the plot of the " Monster Corporation ."
From childhood, Mike Wazowski stood out among the rest of the monsters in that he did not possess any intimidation and did not have the ability to scare someone. But after a school trip to the Monster Corporation, Mike was seriously eager to get a “scary” job in the future. One of the employees tells him that the path to the Corporation lies through the University of Monsters.
Over the years, Mike enters the University at the Scary Faculty, where they train future specialists for the Corporation. In the dormitory, Randall "Randy" Boggs becomes his roommate. In parallel with them, a monster with a famous surname, James P. Sullivan, enters the faculty, who does not intend to learn something, relying only on his excellent data and abilities. Against him, Mike looks like a complete loser.
Mike begins to study hard to get around Sullivan's upstart and prove that hard work leads to better results. Meanwhile, James joins the elite student brotherhood Roar of Hoarse Mouths (POR). Facing each other, the characters begin to dislike each other, which leads to competition between them in terms of study.
At the exam, Sullivan, in an attempt to show Mike who is worse, stumbles over the book of the latter and accidentally drops a container with the energy of children's cries, which leads to a commotion. Dean Terzalez expels both from the Scary Faculty: James - for his careless study, and Mike - for the meaninglessness of his training due to the lack of ability to scare. For the same reason, Sullivan is expelled from the POR fraternity.
Heroes are transferred to the faculty of manufacturing containers for energy and dream of returning back. Mike is still determined to prove to everyone that he can scare, and begins to assemble a team for the University Scary games in which student fraternities participate. The team consists of the five most unlucky and despised monsters, including Mike himself, but six members are required for registration. Dean Terzalez and Wazowski conclude an agreement that if Mike's team wins, he will be able to return to the Scary Faculty. Ironically agreeing to the terms, Terzalez agrees to enroll in the faculty of all team members if Mike wins. Upon learning of this, Sullivan asks Mike for team membership. Due to the complete lack of competition, Mike reluctantly accepts it. So a new fraternity, “Common Nightmare” (“OK”), arises.
In the first competition, the team loses due to disorganization and poor physical data. But then, due to cheating, one of the fraternities is disqualified, which allows the heroes to remain in the race. Mike and Sullivan leave their differences and begin to act together, which ensures them victory in the next competition. Finally, in the final stage, the only opponent remains - the strongest brotherhood of the “POP”, of which Randall became a member after the departure of Sullivan. The purpose of the competition is to go into the children's room simulator and scare the child’s simulator as much as possible.
James understands that Mike will give the worst result, so he decides to cheat, quietly reducing the level of difficulty for him in the settings of the simulator. Thanks to this, "The General Nightmare" wins the Scary Games, and Randall, as a result of chance, shamefully loses out to frighten Sullivan, which marks the beginning of his feud with James. After everyone has dispersed, the joyful Mike enters the simulator to repeat the intimidation, and notices the hacked settings panel. Sullivan confesses everything in front of him and Dean Terzales, and she finally throws them out.
Mike intends to show what he is really capable of, and quietly penetrates into the zone with a real passage into the world of people through the door. After passing through the door, an alarm is triggered and everyone runs into the zone. Tersales doesn’t let anyone near the door, but students distract her while Sullivan sets off to rescue Mike.
Heroes find themselves in the world of people in the middle of the night in a children's camp. Noticing Mike, the children are calling adults who call the police. Meanwhile, Terzalez disconnects the door from power so that people do not enter the world of monsters. Mike and Sullivan finally realize the main thing: they work poorly alone, but, by joining forces, they give the best result. And the only way to get back is to scare people to activate the door. But in the room, instead of children, adult police officers appeared. Mike tells Sullivan what to do, and together they terrify all the cops. The door is overwhelmed with energy and explodes, but the heroes manage at the last moment to jump through the passage back into the world of monsters. Due to the incident, Mike and Sullivan are denied further training at Monster University, but at the same time, all the other members of Mike’s team are being taken to the faculty.
However, friends are not particularly upset about this, because Mike points out to James another way to get into the Corporation - work in the mail department. So begins the long career path of the heroes in the "Monster Corporation", and one fine day, Mike and Sullivan still get the posts "scared".

Creation History
In 2008, for the first time it became known [9] about Pixar's plans to remove the continuation of the animated film "Monster Corporation." It was supposed to create a sequel with a plot revolving around Sally and Mike, visiting Boo, who became a teenager . The release of the tape was scheduled for June 10, 2011. However, officially the start of work on the picture was confirmed only in April 2010, while the assumptions were not justified that Pete Docter would again act as the director . A new release date was announced on November 16, 2011, but this number was subsequently moved closer by two weeks in order to avoid competition in fees with the next series of The Twilight Saga.
At the beginning of 2012, unofficial information appeared that the “Monster Corporation 2” would be the prehistory of the first part [10] . This information was confirmed in May 2012 on the Disney blog. The cartoon's name was also indicated there - Monsters University, and the release date was postponed from November 2, 2012 to June 20, 2013 [11] .
Box office fees
For the first weekend of rental, the cartoon raised $ 147 million, this is the second best start for Pixar studio projects. The best start belongs to the cartoon Toy Story: The Great Escape . Such a good start for the “Monster University” suggests that the cartoon can also collect more than a billion dollars. The main competitors of the cartoon at the box office are such high-profile films as “ Man of Steel ” and “ War of the Worlds Z ”. Thanks to the fees for the third weekend of rental, “Monster University” was able to get to 36th place in the list of highest-grossing cartoons. At the moment, "Monster University" takes 24th place, ahead of the popular cartoon " Madagascar ."
According to the final results of the training camp, “Monster University” was able to overtake its sequel - “ Monster Corporation ” by one line. This is a very good result for the prequel, but given the fact that the sequel was released in 2001, and the prequel in 2013, and the increase in movie theater prices, this lowers the rating of the University and raises it from the Corporation.
