The surname of Ryleev is supposedly derived from the nickname Ryly, not recorded anywhere. Quite possibly, the surname comes from the word “snout” - “broad-faced”. Sometimes the origin of the surname is associated with the southern Russian, Don and Ukrainian words “snout” - lira , the adjective “rally”. The word "snout" could mean a singer-musician. The genus Ryleyev was included in the VI and II parts of the genealogical books of the Tula and Kazan provinces.
