Biography and scientific work

Paul Delos Boyer was born in 1918 in Provo , Utah . In 1939, he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Brigham Young University , and in 1943 he defended his thesis on biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison . After that, he began an independent scientific career at the University of Minnesota , where he introduced kinetic, isotopic and chemical research methods to the study of the mechanism of action of enzymes. In 1963 he became a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California at Los Angeles . Here, Boyer investigated the mechanism of ATP synthesis, for which in 1997 he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with John Walker .

Social activities

In 2016, he signed a letter calling for Greenpeace , the United Nations and governments around the world to stop fighting genetically modified organisms ( GMOs ) [8] [9] [10] .
