Cave (company)

CAVE CO., LTD. - Japanese company, a developer of computer games . It specializes in "manic" scrolling shooters for arcade slot machines , remaining one of the most active game developers of this genre in the Japanese market. The company was created by former Toaplan employees, and many of its early games are the "spiritual heirs" of some Toaplan games - notably Truxton and Batsugun . The company is currently developing games for gaming machines, mobile phones , Xbox 360, PC [1] as well as online computer games.

The company is not a publisher, its games were distributed by a number of different companies. CAVE has 3 subsidiaries . MINI4WD Networks Co, Declease ltd., Beads Mania Ltd. It was founded jointly with Tamiya in February 2006.

TABOT, Inc. engaged in games, music and online content development. Beads Mania produces accessories.

Hardware

For its arcade games, the company used different arcade platforms in different years. Early games released in 1994-1999 used the company's own platform based on the Motorola 68000 microprocessor [2] . In the early 2000s, the company's games were released on a more advanced universal platform Poly Game Master (PGM) [3] . In the mid-2000s, a new proprietary platform was used based on the Hitachi SH-3 processor [4] (Known as CaveSH-3, officially called CV-1000). Currently, the company plans to switch to a new system, the characteristics of which are still unknown.

Interesting Facts

In the DonPachi and Puzzle Uo Poko games, the illegal warning copy screen that appears when the slot machine is turned on contained the inscriptions on Engrish - “ Violator and subject to severe penalties and will be prosecutedt to the full extent of the jam ”.

Flyers of many CAVE arcade games (especially those using equipment with the SH-3 processor) had patterns of paper models on the back.
