Biography
Barr was born in Biknell, Indiana . In 1939, he graduated from De Pou University in Greencastle , Indiana [1] , and in 1941 received a Master of Arts degree in economics from Harvard University . During World War II, Barr served in the Navy . In January 1944, for the sinking of a German submarine during the Anzio-Nettun operation , Barru was awarded a Bronze Star .
Joseph Barr begins his political career with his election as a member of the House of Representatives . In this position, from 1959 to 1961, he represented the interests of the 11th electoral district in the state of Indiana. In 1959 and 1960, advocated the adoption of a law on education by the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Development Association .
In 1961, Barr was appointed by President John F. Kennedy to the post of Deputy Minister of Finance Henry Fowler [2] . In 1968, Joseph became the 69th US Treasury Secretary. Currently, collectors valued a $ 1 note with the signature of Barr, as it is believed that there are not many left. In fact, these banknotes were printed for more than $ 458 million, but due to their limited lifespan (an average of 21 months), it is unknown how many banknotes are left [3] .
