General information
Châtea-Malabry is located in the department of Hautes-de-Seine , in the French region of Ile-de-France , at an altitude of 104 meters above sea level. The area of the commune is 6.38 km². The population is 31.873 inhabitants (as of 2006 ). The population density is 4.996 people / km².
History
The name " Châtenay " comes from the Latin castellanum , which means "small castle" or "Roman fortified camp." This indicates the existence of such a fortification in this area in the 1st or 2nd century AD. e. Shatne was first written in the 9th century. The settlement until the French Revolution was in the possession of the Paris Catholic Diocese. In the period from 1719 to 1722, Voltaire lived here, later - Chateaubriand .
Currently, Châtea Malabry is a small, cozy town, lying in a green valley with an excellent climate. Here is the Paris Central School ( École Centrale Paris ) - the highest engineering school of the Paris region and the Faculty of Science and Pharmacy.
