International School Olympiads - a group of annually held international competitions for school graduates in a number of scientific disciplines. Teams from 4-6 graduates who have passed national selections (usually also called olympiads) participate in the Olympiads from each country. The exception is the linguistic Olympiad, which allows teams from cities and several teams to the country, and the natural science, which is intended for middle-aged students. Currently, there are 12 international scientific olympiads:
- International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO, since 1959; not held in 1980)
- International Physical Olympiad (IPhO, since 1967; was not in 1973, 1978, 1980)
- International Chemical Olympiad (IChO, since 1968; not held in 1971)
- International Biological Olympiad (IBO, since 1990)
- International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI, since 1989)
- International Philosophical Olympiad (IPO, since 1993)
- International Environmental Olympiad (INEPO, since 1993) http://www.inepo.com/english/
- International Geographic Olympiad (IGeo, since 1996) http://www.geoolympiad.org
- International Linguistic Olympiad (IOL / ILO, since 2003)
- International Natural Science Olympiad (IJSO, since 2004) https://web.archive.org/web/20080410172153/http://www.ijso-official.org/
- International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA, since 2007 [1] ) http://www.ioaastrophysics.org
- International Earth Sciences Olympiad (IESO, since 2007) http://www.ieso2008.ph
Each Olympiad is a separate competition with its own organizing committee, despite the fact that they are all grouped under the single name "International Olympiads." Their common goal is to promote the popularization of science and the promotion of talented students, as well as to compare the educational systems of different countries.
Although the competition is aimed at students, the level of tasks is usually very high. Therefore, a successful performance at the international olympiad in many countries gives the right to enter any higher education institution of your choice.
In 2018, the Higher School of Economics (Russia) declared the International School Olympiad in Economics (IEO) [2] [3] [4] .
