Biography
Born in a working class family. Russian. He graduated from 9 classes of high school, flying club.
Military service before World War II
He was called up for military service by the Baumansky RVC of the city of Moscow on a Komsomol trip to the Red Army in 1940 . He graduated from the Tbilisi Military Aviation Pilot School in 1941 . Sent to the 8th reserve fighter aviation regiment near Saratov .
World War II
In the battles of World War II from August 1941 . He fought on the South , 1st Ukrainian , 2nd Ukrainian , 4th Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , in the Crimean offensive operation , in the liberation of Poland , Romania , Czechoslovakia , Hungary and Austria . He was a pilot, flight commander and commander of a fighter squadron in the 85th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment . He became famous as the master of air escort of the Il-2 attack aircraft , which under his cover had practically no losses from enemy aircraft.
Most of the war flew on fighter aircraft A.S. Yakovlev . By February 1945, it completed 294 sorties, conducted 90 air battles, and personally shot down 19 enemy aircraft. For these exploits presented to the awarding of the title of Hero of the Soviet Union . The corresponding decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was signed only on May 15, 1946 . And the captain Konstantinov continued to fight the guard until the last days of the war. After the war
After the war he served as commander of an air squadron, deputy commander of a fighter aviation regiment. Since November 1952, he commanded a fighter aviation regiment. Since February 1956, he was deputy commander, and since March 1957, he was commander of a fighter aviation division in the Air Force. In April 1958 he was transferred to the Air Defense Forces of the country , where he also became the commander of an aviation division.
In 1964 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff . Since 1968, he commanded the air defense corps. Since December 1970 - the commander of the 11th separate Red Banner Air Defense Army of the country (headquarters in Khabarovsk ). Since 1973, he commanded the troops of the Baku Air Defense District. Since 1980 - Commander of the Moscow Air Defense District. In 1982 he graduated from the Higher Academic Courses at the Military Academy of the General Staff . The military rank of Air Marshal was awarded on April 30, 1985 . Dismissed a few days before the scandalous flight of the German amateur pilot Mathias Rust to Moscow in 1987 , after this flight he was accused of the fact that this became possible due to his shortcomings in the command of the district.
In 1987 and in 1990 - 1992 - military inspector-adviser to the Group of Inspectors General of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR . Since May 1992 - retired. He lived in Moscow . In the last years of his life, he was an adviser to the commander of the troops of the Special Forces Command .
Member of the Central Audit Commission of the CPSU (1981-1986). Candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1986-1989). Member of the Council of the Union of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 9-11 convocations (1974-1989) from the Ryazan region .
He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery .
