Yakov Germanovich Gevirts (January 27 (February 8) 1879 [1] , Odessa - 1942 , Leningrad ) - Russian and Soviet architect of Jewish origin.

Content

Biography

He studied at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts ( Leonty Nikolayevich Benois workshop ( 1899 - 1906 ). In 1908, he won the competition for the design of a new complex of buildings at the Jewish Transfiguration Cemetery of St. Petersburg, entered the Community Building Committee, which collaborated until the 1920s and was the architect of the Preobrazhensky Jewish cemetery.

Full member of the Archaeological Institute. Secretary of the Society of Architects-Artists ( 1910s ).

From 1922 he taught at VHUTEIN - LVHTI - INPI - LIHSA (former Academy of Arts), since 1936 - Dean of the Faculty of Architecture.

He died in besieged Leningrad, was buried in a mass grave of professors of the Academy of Arts at the Decembrist Island cemetery.

  • The fence of the Great Choral Synagogue (1908),
