History
Malokarachayevsky district was first formed in 1922 as the Malo-Karachay district of the newly formed Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region . At that time, the district center was the city of Kislovodsk [8] , which was not part of the district itself. In 1957, after the re-formation of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region and the re-formation of the Malokarachayevsky district in its structure, the center of the district moved to the village of Uchkeken.
On February 1, 1963, instead of the existing 6 rural districts, Adyge-Khablsky (center aul Adyge-Khabl ), Zelenchuksky (center Zelenchukskaya village), Karachayevsky (center Karachaevsk city), Malokarachayevsky (center Uchkeken village), Prikubansky (center Ust- stanitsa village) Dzhegutinsky ), Khabezskiy (center aul Khabez ) [9] .
On January 12, 1965, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR decided [10] :
- to form the Urupsky district - the center of the village of Pregradnaya ;
- abolish the Urup industrial region of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region;
- Adyge-Khablsky, Zelenchuksky, Karachayevsky, Malokarachayevsky, Prikubansky and Khabezsky rural areas of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region are transformed into districts.
