From the history of the theater

State Free Satyr Agitation Theater

On December 20, 1920, in accordance with the Decree of the People's Commissariat for Education, Azerneshr and AzROST in Baku , the State Free Satyr-Agitation Theater was inaugurated. The theater was formed on the basis of the troupe of the theater of N. F. Baliev “ The Bat ”, which broke up in Tbilisi and part of the team of the theater “Momus”, which was disbanded by the decision of the revolutionary government. The director of the theater and the main director was V. Schweitzer , the administrator was P. Oreshkov, the writer was N. Gorodetskaya, and the artist was B. Voronov. The theater lasted until 1923 .

Baku Worker Theater

By the decision of the Baku City Executive Committee on April 29, 1923, the State Free Satyr-Agittheater was renamed the Baku Worker Theater, which was again headed by Vladimir Schweitzer (Pessimist), V. Schweitzer from the satirical agitation theater - miniature theater, creates a full-fledged drama group, defining its bright for many years , an original character that has recommended and glorified the theater among the collectives of Russian theaters of the Soviet Union. As the Chief Director and Artistic Director, he runs the theater, with some interruption, from 1920 to 1929 and from 1941 to 1956. During his absence, the theater is directed by V.G. Sakhnovsky. Six months later, on October 25, the theater hosted the premiere of the first drama performance “The City in the Ring”, based on the play by S. Minin. The new troupe included actors who came from Moscow, Odessa, Irkutsk - S. Taneyev, K. Lavretsky, N. Snezhin, L. Litvinova, O. Lanskaya, N. Leshchinsky, L. Morozova, A. Gorsky, N. Kolomensky N. Sokolov, S. Klimov, N. Rogozhin and others. The repertoire of the theater consisted mainly of revolutionary Soviet and foreign drama.

In 1924, a Workshop Studio was opened at the Baku Workers Theater, which since 1926 has been headed by professionals from the Meyerhold trades - V. Fedorov and S. Mayorov (directors), actor M. Zharov . The troupe is replenished by artists - Faina Ranevskaya , V. Kuznetsov, artists - S. Efimenko and I. Shletenov.

Azerbaijan State Red Banner Russian Drama Theater

In 1937, the theater was renamed the Azerbaijan State Red Banner Theater of Russian Drama. Touring began to practice in the cities of the North Caucasus and Transcaucasia, and later in the cities of the entire Soviet Union. With the work of directors D. Gutman , E. Loyter, A. Ivanov, F. Fedorov, S. Mayorov, E. Gakkel, A. Ridal, A. Tuganov, A. Gripich , Y. Yaroslavsky, I. Idayatzade , K Stepanova-Kolosov and others are also associated with the creative flourishing of the theater and the formation of its popularity in the USSR.

Since 1956, with the name of GITIS graduate - M.K. Ashumov, a new period of a special take-off of the theater has been connected. Having replenished the repertoire with new productions of Russian and foreign classics, Ashumov reveals to the Baku audience many new acting talents - V. Shirye, R. Ginzburg , K. Adamov, M. Adushev, L. Gruber, P. Zharikov, M. Lezgishvili, A. Meshalkin, A. Falkovich , K. Irmich, Yu. Kolesnichenko, A. Suvirova, N. Sarnatskaya A. Kornilov, K. Myakishev, V. Otradinsky, P. Yudin, K. Babicheva, G. Sorin and others.

In 1956, the theater was named after the national poet Samad Vurgun . The theater began to be called the Russian Drama Theater named after Samad Vurgun.

The period 60-80 years. associated with the work of directors G. Akhmedova-Martynova, D. Selimova , I. Khasin, E. Sakharov, E. Beibutov, E. Aliyev, R. Ibragimbekov . The troupe replenished with the names of new bright talents. These are M. Yagizarov , T. Galakichieva, E. Nevmerzhitskaya, L. Dukhovnaya , D. Tumarkina, A. Sharovsky , N. Shashik-oglu , then - R. To date, the composition of the troupe has changed significantly, thanks to young graduates of the Azerbaijan State University of Arts and Culture , the Choreographic School and the Drama Theater Theater.

In 2019, by order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the theater was granted academic status [1] .
