The appearance of Nino Machaidze in this role was a surprise and gave rise to high expectations, since the Austrian public in recent years has become accustomed to seeing the Netrebko - Villason “star couple” in this performance. However, the career paths of Netrebko and Villason in 2008 diverged, partly due to the family circumstances of Anna Netrebko (marriage and childbirth), as well as Rolando Villason's six-month time-out due to problems with the throat. Therefore, “Romeo and Juliet” in Salburg-2008 was a serious test for both partners.
