The National Basketball Association's Sixth Man of the Year Award is the sixth best player in the Regular Season Award . The winner in this nomination is chosen by 124 journalists from various television channels and print media of the USA and Canada by voting for the three best spare ones from the list. For the first place, 5 points are awarded, for the second - 3, and for the third - 1. The player who scored the most points by the vote is recognized as the best sixth player in the NBA. Nominees for this award should play more games, going to the floor from the bench than in the starting lineup. [one]
Since its inception, the award has been awarded to 24 basketball players. Jamal Crawford and Louis Williams have won this award three times, and Kevin McHale , Ricky Pierce and Detlef Schrempf - twice. Phoenix Suns basketball players won the title four times, and the Boston Celtics won three times [2] . Bill Walton and Kevin McHale are the only "sixth players" to be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame .
The last NBA Best Sixth title holder to date is Luis Williams . Ginobili , Schrempf, Barbosa, Tony Kukoch and Ben Gordon are title holders born outside the United States. Gordon is the only player to play an award winning first season in the NBA. [3]
