Character Description
Alex Krycek is of Russian-American descent; he is the son of two immigrants from the Cold War [1] . Judging by his appearance, he is no more than thirty years old. For the first time, he appears in the episode " Sleepless " of the second season, as a temporary partner of Agent Fox Mulder . A nice and pleasant young man is interested in Mulder’s ideas and is trying hard to gain his trust [2] without causing any suspicion. He helps to investigate the case of strange murders, he tries his best to be useful. In a telephone conversation with Scully, Mulder admits that he enjoys working with a new partner.
However, further this positive character reports on the work done to the members of the Consortium . It becomes obvious that Krycek is an undercover agent working for the Smoker [2] . Only at the end of the Ascension episode, Mulder, who lent his partner's car, finds Morley cigarette butts in his glove compartment. Krycek plays an important role in several incidents that harm Mulder and Scully: he helps kidnap Scully and kill Mulder’s father (William "Bill" Mulder) [3] .
Krycek also attacks Executive Director Walter Skinner and takes over a cassette of classified materials from the US Department of Defense, from which it was clear that the government was hiding the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations. After an unsuccessful attempt on Scully, leading to the death of her sister, the Smoker tries to kill Krycek with a bomb placed in the car, but Alex avoids death in time [4] . Krycek later sells secrets from encrypted files under the MJ signature stamp around the world. Under the influence of the Black Oil virus, Krycek returns the film to the Smoker in exchange for information about the location of the alien ship, sent to an abandoned rocket bunker in North Dakota , where the ship is hidden. The “black oil” exits Krycek, leaving it locked in a bunker next to the ship.
The next time, Krycek is discovered during an FBI raid and taken under the supervision of Mulder and Scully. They learn that Alex was hired by a military extremist group in North Dakota, he tells them that agents can trace the source of extraterrestrial stones brought to America by a foreign diplomat from the Gulag . Then it turns out that Alex knows the Russian language, calling Mulder the obscene words "Creature", "Pascuda", "Asshole bad."
The search leads Krycek and Mulder to Tunguska , where they are kept locked up while Krycek tries to gain freedom with dexterity. Mulder himself escapes, taking with him Alex, who is unconscious. When he wakes up, he lags behind in the forest, after which he is captured by a strange group of Russians - they all have no left hand. New Siberian friends, out of kindness, decided to help their friend and former compatriot by amputating Krycek a hand so that they would not be used in experiments with “black oil”. Ultimately, with this group Krycek gets a much more significant role. It turned out that he had long been familiar with the KGB agent and killer Vasily Peskov, who had committed several sabotage against the Syndicate. He even has a romantic relationship with their secretary, Marita Kovarrubias (who, in turn, uses Alexa for her own purposes to help Mulder). Because of these double bonds, Krycek is temporarily held hostage by Man-with-good-manicure. Krycek later comes to Mulder as a friendly messenger with the message that the war has begun and that Mulder must either resist or obey [5] .
Later in the series, Krycek moves from one side to the other when it is convenient for him, from time to time helping Mulder, the Smoker and other characters. He is trying to blackmail Skinner with the help of infection with the novirus [6] , but this venture ends with the fact that the Smoker locks him in a Tunisian prison [7] . In the season 7 finale, in the episode Requiem , he attempts to kill the Smoker, who is now confined to a wheelchair, pushing him down the stairs [7] . Later, when Mulder is abducted by the aliens and returned in a slightly living state, Krycek again tries to blackmail Skinner in order to save Mulder's life. Skinner refuses, and Alex faces a fierce confrontation with John Doggett [8] .
In the final episode of season 8 of " Existence ", during an unsuccessful attempt on the life of Mulder, Krycek is shot by Skinner [9] . Alex’s ghost appears to Mulder at the end of the ninth season to help him escape from Mount Weser , and then, like Mr. X, is present with Fox in prison and in court, saying that “You won’t manage without me” [10] .
