Born September 22, 1849 near the city of Banbury . He received his primary education at a public school in Banbury and continued his studies at Hale School in Perth .
In 1870 and 1874 he took part in expeditions organized by his older brother John Forrest .
In 1879, he made his first independent expedition to Northwest Australia , where he explored the Fitzroy River Valley, which was soon settled by settlers. He also first explored the dissected Kimberley Plateau , and discovered and examined the southern part of the King Liopold Range. Following his travels, Forrest published the Journal of Expedition from De Gray to Port Darvin in Perth in 1880 .
Since 1887, Forrest went into politics and in 1893 - 1895 and 1898 - 1900 was the mayor of Perth.
He died in Perth on June 20, 1901 .
